Statement of Faith

     Our particular views on Scripture would be considered evangelical.  We hold to the orthodox teachings of the Trinity, Deity of Christ, Inerrancy, Infallibility, and Inspiration of Scripture and believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.  Below is a detailed statement of faith outlining some of the specific views that we have.  We recognize that some of the points are not "salvation-related" and there is room in the church for disagreement and discussion.  As such, you would not need to agree with us on every point in order to host one of our seminars.  We list these so that you may know exactly where we are coming from and to answer any questions someone may have about our specific beliefs.

At Midwest Apologetics, we affirm and/or believe:

1) That the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the infallible and inspired Word of God.  It is without error in the original manuscripts and is the final authority for all mankind (2 Timothy 3:16 / Luke 21: 33).

2) The Trinity – One God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  He is the Creator of all things and is sovereign over His creation (Matthew 3: 16, 17 and 28: 19).

3) That Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man (Colossians 1: 15 – 19 and 2: 9).  He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin named Mary (Luke 1: 34 – 37). 

4) That His sacrificial death on the cross paid the entire penalty of man’s sin (John 19: 30).  His bodily resurrection from the dead is the foundation of our faith (1 Corinthians 15: 1 – 4).  He ascended into heaven, to the right hand of the Father, where He is our High Priest and Advocate (Hebrews 8: 1 / 1 John 2: 1).

5) That the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide the only means of salvation for the sinner (1 Corinthians 15: 1 – 4).  Salvation is by God’s grace alone and is received through faith alone in Christ alone (Ephesians 2: 8, 9).  Man cannot do any works to merit salvation since Christ’s death has already completely atoned for sin.  Those who trust in Jesus Christ alone receive the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of salvation (2 Corinthians. 1: 22); therefore, the believer’s salvation is eternally secured (Romans 8: 38 – 39 / John 5: 24). 

6) That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ (John 16: 14) and, during this age, to convict men of sin (John 16: 8), renew the believing sinner to fellowship with God (1 Peter 3: 18), and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.  The Holy Spirit gifts each believer for particular areas of service to edify the body and these gifts can only be used in accordance with Scriptural guidelines (Romans 12: 3 – 8 / 1 Corinthians 3: 16; 12: 11; 13: 1 – 13).

7) That man was created in the image of God (Gen. 1: 26) but chose to sin and is, therefore, lost and destined for eternal punishment (Romans 5: 18).  While all men inherit Adam’s sinful nature, God, in His sovereignty, has graciously given man the ability to choose or reject His offer of salvation through Jesus Christ (John 3: 16 / 2 Peter 3: 9). 

8) That the Lord Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances for Christians to observe in this present age: believer’s baptism (Matthew 28: 19) and the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11: 23 – 26).  These are not to be regarded as a means of salvation but are to be followed by the faithful out of obedience.

9) That the true church is made up of everyone who has placed saving faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2: 8–9).  Believers are also united by the Holy Spirit in the Body of Christ (John 17: 21 / 1 Corinthians 12: 13). 

10) That Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church (Colossians 1: 18) and that every local church has the right, under Christ, to decide and govern its own affairs according to and in compliance with Scripture (1 Timothy 3 / Acts 20: 28).

11) In the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting life and joy with the Lord (Revelation 21: 1 – 4 and 22 – 27); of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment in the Lake of Fire, which was created for the devil and his angels (Rev. 20: 15).

12) That God created everything approximately 6,000 years ago in six literal days of approximately 24 hours each as recorded in Genesis 1.  This account is to be taken at face value and cannot accommodate the alleged vast time periods suggested by theories of men without damaging the credibility of the entire Bible (Genesis 1 / Exodus 20: 11 and 31: 17, 18 / Matthew 19: 4, 5 / 1 Corinthians 15: 20 – 22).
