Baptism played an important role in the New Testament. Throughout church history it has been a divisive issue, with some placing too much emphasis on it and others nearly ignoring it. Some have shifted the focus from the purpose of baptism to the mode of baptism. What are we to make of this? What does the Bible actually say about baptism?
