Welcome to the monthly Midwest Apologetics newsletter. Each issue is designed to keep you informed on the latest news concerning the ministry.
The Latest News
The last month has provided some wonderful ministry opportunities. I had the privilege of attending two-day retreat with my high school students. It was great to interact with and minister to these young people. One of the nights the students laid out under the stars while I gave a talk about how the “heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19: 1). It was amazing spending time singing praises to our Creator while gazing at the beauty of universe.
Our school did something out of the ordinary last month. About five weeks into the school year, the board decided to overhaul the science curriculum. We have replaced three secular textbooks with Christian books dedicated to young earth creationism. These books are produced by Apologia Education Ministries and may very well be the best science curricula available today. Our students will be learning a great deal of science and how to defend their faith at the same time.
A local pastor recently suggested that I put together a talk on Dan Brown’s popular book, The da Vinci Code. I have been listening to an unabridged version of the book (11 tapes) and reading several Christian critiques of it. It is amazing how much misinformation is being passed off as truth in this work of fiction. Even more amazing (and sad) is how many people are buying into Brown’s claims. Look for some articles and book reviews concerning this book in the coming weeks.
I had the opportunity to speak at Riverside Bible Church (Dubuque, IA) last Sunday morning on the topic of Bible Difficulties. The talk was very well received. Numerous people told me that they were encouraged and/or strengthened in their faith because they learned to have a greater trust in God’s Word. (A previous version of this talk is available on the website). As I was finishing up this newsletter, I received a call to speak there again this Sunday (Oct. 23).
The website is getting better and better. I have been able to write more than expected over the past two weeks and Josh has added a couple of articles and book reviews. We will continue to add articles and book reviews related to defending the faith.
As the number of articles grows, we will soon need a better search engine on the site. If you have any recommendations please let us know.
October 23 – Tim will be speaking at Riverside Bible Church (Dubuque, IA) 10:00 AM
December 25 (Christmas Day) – Tim will be speaking at the Evangelical Free Church of Gratiot – Gratiot, WI at 10:30AM.
