A Golden Opportunity for the Church

The month of May is very important for Hollywood.  It is the start of the summer season when the studios release their blockbuster films.  Of course, most of the films contain worldly ideals and promote a secular worldview.  Beginning on May 19, Hollywood is presenting the church with a golden opportunity for outreach.

Dan Brown’s best-selling novel, The Da Vinci Code, is hitting the big screen.  The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Tom Hanks as the Harvard professor, Robert Langdon.  If the movie is anything like the book then the Church, the Bible, and Jesus Christ will be under constant attack.

So how can a movie (and book) with a plot completely antithetical to biblical principles offer a great opportunity for the church?  Simple.  The movie, like the book, will generate discussion about Jesus Christ and the Bible.  Brown’s novel makes numerous false claims and it seems that a lot of people are eager to believe the lies.  Christians need to be aware of these claims and be ready to share the truth with those who have heard the lies.

The Da Vinci Code has become a fad.  It is simply the latest attack on God’s Word.  Eventually, it’s popularity will wane and another assault will be launched.  Brown’s book follows in a long line of books and/or movies that have been designed to attack the foundations of Christianity (see The Passover Plot for one example).  These books have become popular because our culture has shifted from a Christian foundation to a secular one.  What would have been rejected as heretical a few generations ago is now gladly accepted by a populace yearning for answers to spiritual questions.

This is why it is so important for Christians to learn how to defend their faith.  It’s not enough to remain content with being saved.  People are being deceived and conditioned to reject Christianity by books such as these.

Tim has already been asked to do several talks on this subject.  If you would like your church to be better prepared to answer the questions raised by this book, please contact us to schedule him to speak at your church.

Prayer Requests

Please pray for the following items this month:

-   Cari – diagnosed with leukemia last month.

-   Gayla S. – the niece of a close friend of Midwest Apologetics has recently been intellectually convinced of the Christian faith but needs to take that step of faith to place her life in Christ’s hands.  Please pray that she will take that next step.

-   The Creation Apologetics conference at Living Waters Bible Camp.  This will undoubtedly be the biggest event that Tim has spoken at so far.  Please pray that God will give him clarity of mind and speech and that God will be glorified through the messages given at the conference.

-   Tim will be starting work on his M.Div. at Liberty soon.  Please pray that he will be able to manage his time well.

As always, if you have any questions, comment, concerns, corrections, ideas, prayer requests, etc., please email us and let us know.  Also, thank you for your prayers.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers throughout this month.
